"RAW & REAL"
Acting exercises before & during the shoot, to get truthful moments...
We work differently than other headshot photographers. Here's how:
First and foremost, we are trained actors and can smell falseness. Secondly, Doren has been an acting instructor for over 15 years and can pick up on all inauthentic moments and help eradicate them.
What this means is this:
We’ve discovered that actors don't treat their headshots as anything more than still images showing how they look while making smiley or dramatic faces, wearing different colored clothes, and posing. Instead:
What We Do Is This
Danielle Hanson being coached by me during the shoot, reacting to something she is Working for, stimulating a real and truthful reaction.
You pick your "looks," which are basically character breakdowns, and together we find and highlight those parts in yourself.
We then facilitate you with specific techniques and exercises before and during the shoot, coaching you through it like an acting teacher does in class or an acting coach does on set.
Using techniques and methods from Stella Adler, Lee Strasberg, Larry Moss, Uta Hagen, Eric Morris, Anthony Vincent Bova, and the guru of them all Stanislavsky, together we will find the truth in the moment, and as we aid you to express those honest emotions and thoughts and experiences, we click the shutter button and take the shot. And another shot. And then another....
And that makes for headshots that pop, that tell a story, that show a real human being in the moment, expressing a confident and honest reality.
To bring the moment even more to life, using off-camera flash (strobes), we give it a cinematic effect, like a still from a movie, close up on the actor's face, eyes being the main focus -- intention, thought, emotion. Even in our home studio, we aim for the same cinematic feel.
